HP is aiming to surpass Apple's MacBook with a much thinner laptop of its own. During the Consumer Electronics Show 2016 (CES) in Las Vegas, they have announced the 4K Ultrabook also known as the Elite Folio G1. The American tech company also launched its EliteBook 1040 G3 and EliteBook 800 G3
According to Latin Post, the Elitebook Folio G1 measures at 0.49 inches thick. That is hardly slimmer than the MacBook, which is 0.51 inches thick. The Elitebook Folio G1 weighs 2.2 pounds, compared to the MacBook's weight of 2.3 pounds.
The Intel Core m7-6Y75 processor inside the Elitebook Folio G1 is said to be faster than the MacBook's processor. It includes two USB-C ports, a brand new technology that is still being introduced in the technology world. The Elitebook Folio G1 is equipped with a CNC aluminum body and a glass trackpad. Users have the choice of upgrading the 12.5-inch screen to a 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels).
It was also mentioned that MacBooks cannot be opened up past a certain point, but the Elitebook Folio G1 has a special center that lets it to be opened flat to 180 degrees.
Apart from the Elite Folio G1, HP has announced other laptops during the CES event. TechRadar Pro reported that HP also introduced the EliteBook 1040 G3. While Intel's family of Skylake Core M-series chips is proving to hold their own, sometimes users need the power of a beefirer Core I-series processor. HP has updated its EliteBook 1040 series with a new G3 model.
With the EliteBook 1040 G2 great, the G3 sees the introduction of 6th generation Intel CPUs, USB-C charging and Bang & Olufsen speakers. The framework hasn't changed much, but the G3 is fairly thinner and lighter for a 14-inch laptop measuring 0.65-inches (165mm) thick and weighing 3.15 pounds (1.43kg).
Users will be able to choose their system with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM as well as a 512GB SSD. Coming later this month, the HP EliteBook 1040 G3's starting price begins at $1,199 (about £819, AU$1,671).
Additionally, HP has also unveiled a new series of HP EliteBook 800 G3 notebooks. This includes the 12.5-inch 820 G3, 14-inch 840 G3 and 15.6-inch 850 G3.
All of the new models are obtainable with enhanced security features including self-encrypting storage drives, SmartCard readers and optional fingerprint readers. The notebooks are also equipped with an enterprise minded keyboard that features DuraKeys, which HP stated will never fade over time.
Users will also be able to choose their configurations with either Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors. Furthermore, storage and memory options are capped at a 1TB HDD or 512GB SSD and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. There are also quite a number of available operating systems to choose from including Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, FreeDOS 2.0 or NeoKylin 64.
Nevertheless, there are a few limitations per model. Only the 840 and 850 can be optioned with a Ultra HD display, and the latter unit can be armed with discrete AMD Radeon R7 M365X graphics. The HP EliteBook 800 G3 series is anticipated to be available in January starting at $949 (about £645, AU$1,323) for the 820 model.
Meanwhile, Canadian Reviews cited that HP fulfilled its promise to reinvent the PC by bringing premium consumer design into a commercial-grade device with the HP EliteBook Folio. This laptop is the thinnest and lightest notebook HP has ever created. It is twenty-one percent slimmer and up to 15 percent lighter than the award-winning HP EliteBook 1020 making the EliteBook Folio is HP's sleekest business-class notebook as of the moment.
The HP Elitebook Folio G1 will be a great option for the consumers who want a thin and light laptop. It will be available directly from HP's website starting in March. Moreover, the company also delivers other notebook selections of HP EliteBook 800 G3.
