HMS Duncan

HMS Duncan (D37) – Type 45/Daring-Class Air-Defence Destroyer

HMS Duncan (D37) is the last of the Type 45 (Daring) class air-defence destroyers constructed by BAE Systems Surface Ships, for the UK Royal Navy.

The keel for HMS Duncan was laid down in January 2007. The destroyer was launched in October 2010 and commissioned into service in September 2013.

HMS Duncan is armed with Sea Viper air defence system, Aster 15 missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missile system, BAE Mk 8 naval gun, Oerlikon 30mm guns, and Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS).

Changchun (150) & Zhengzhou (151) – Type 052C (Luyang II) Class Destroyers

Changchun (150) and Zhengzhou (151) are two Type 052C (Luyang II) Class destroyers built by Jiangnan Shipyard, for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). The vessels entered service with PLAN’s East Sea Fleet in 2013.

Changchun, the third vessel in the class, was launched in October 2010 and commissioned into service in January 2013. The fourth ship in series, Zhengzhou was launched in June 2011 and commissioned into the PLAN in December 2013.

The destroyer ships are armed with HHQ-9 long-range surface-to-air missiles, C-805 anti-ship / land attack cruise missiles, HN-2 land attack cruise missiles, Type 210 100mm gun, Type 730 close-in weapons systems, and torpedo launch system.

Carlo Bergamini

Carlo Bergamini (F590) & Virginio Fasan (F591) – FREMM Multipurpose Frigates

Carlo Bergamini (F590) and Virginio Fasan (F591) are the first and second multipurpose frigates built for the Italian Navy under the Italian-French FREMM (European Multi-Mission Frigate). The FREMM series is referred to as Bergamini Class in Italian.

The first unit of the Bergamini Class was laid down in January 2008 and launched in July 2012. It was delivered to the Italian Navy in May 2013. The keel for second frigate in class, Virginio Fasan, was laid in May 2009, the vessel was launched in March 2012 and delivered to the Navy in December 2013.

Bergamini is a multi-mission frigate, while Virginio Fasan has been configured for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). The frigates are fitted with Aster surface-to-air missiles, MU90 torpedo launchers and Otobreda 76mm Super Rapid guns.

Admiral Gorshkov – Project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov Class Frigate

Admiral Gorshkov is the lead vessel of Admiral Gorshkov Class frigates built by Severnaya Verf shipyard, for the Russian Navy. The vessel is expected to enter service with the Northern Fleet in 2014.

The Admiral Gorshkov was laid down in February 2006 and launched in October 2010. The construction was concluded prior to the commencement of mooring trails in July 2013.

Admiral Gorshkov is armed with Yakhont (Oniks) anti-ship cruise missiles, Medvedka-2 ASW weapon system, Redut air defence missile system, a 130mm gun mount, and a 30mm close-in weapon system.

INS Trikand (F50) – Talwar Class Guided Missile Frigate

INS Trikand (F50) is the third and last unit of the second batch of Talwar Class guided missile frigates operated by the Indian Navy. The frigate was built by Yantar Shipyard in Russia.

INS Trikand was laid in July 2008 and launched in May 2011. It underwent extensive acceptance trials in the Baltic Sea between April and May 2013 before being handed over to the Indian Navy in June 2013.

The armaments fitted aboard Trikand include BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, Shtil surface-to-air missiles, A190 medium range gun, 30mm close-in weapon system, and ASW torpedoes and rockets.

PNS Aslat

PNS Aslat (254) – Zulfiquar / Sword Class Frigate

PNS Aslat (254) is the fourth and last new build of F-22P or Zulfiquar (Sword) Class frigates that are in service with the Pakistan Navy. It was indigenously built by Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works, with assistance from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, China.

Construction on the PNS Aslat began in late 2009 and was launched in June 2011. It was commissioned into Pakistan Navy’s Destroyer Squadron in April 2013.

The general purpose frigate is installed with C-802 anti-ship missiles, FM-90 surface-to-air missiles, AK-176M main gun, Type 730B CIWS, ET-52C torpedo launchers and RDC-32 ASW rockets.

Incheon (FFG-811) – Incheon Class Frigate

Incheon (FFG-811), the lead vessel of Incheon Class or Future Frigate Experimental (FFX), is a coastal defence frigate built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN).

Incheon was ordered in December 2008, launched in April 2011 and delivered to the ROKN in January 2013. The 2,300t frigate is capable of conducting coast patrol, anti-submarine, anti-air and anti-surface warfare missions.

The frigate is armed with SSM-700K Hae Sung (Sea Star) long-range anti-ship missiles, Hyunmoo IIIC cruise missiles, Mk 45 Mod 4 naval gun, Phalanx 20mm CIWS, RIM-116B Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) launcher and K745 Chung Sang Eo (Blue Shark) torpedoes.

Corvettes built in 2013

Boikiy (532) – Steregushchy Class Corvette

Boikiy (532), the third new-build vessel of Project 20380 Steregushchy Class corvettes, was built by Severnaya Verf shipyard, for the Russian Navy. The corvette is currently operated by Baltic Fleet of the Russian Federation.

Boikiy was laid down in July 2005, launched in April 2011 and completed state sea trials in April 2013, before being delivered to the Russian Navy in May 2013.

Boikiy’s weapons package constitutes Kh-35 anti-ship missiles and 3M54 Klub cruise missiles, REDUT-K SAM system, a 100mm gun, two 30mm automatic anti-aircraft gun mounts, and torpedo tubes.

Erfurt (F262), Oldenburg (F263) and Ludwigshafen am Rhein (F264) – K130 Braunschweig Class Corvettes

Erfurt (F262), Oldenburg (F263) and Ludwigshafen am Rhein (F264) are the last three new builds of the K130 Braunschweig Class corvettes. The vessels were built at Nordseewerke, Blohm + Voss and Lürssen-Werft shipyards for the German Navy.

The keel for Erfurt was laid by Nordseewerke shipyard in September 2005. The corvette was launched in March 2007 and delivered in February 2013. Oldenburg and Ludwigshafen am Rhein were commissioned into service in January 2013 and March 2013 respectively.

Braunschweig Class is armed with RBS 15 mk3 surface-to-surface missiles, Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM), 76mm Super Rapid naval gun and two 27mm Mauser guns.

USS Coronado

USS Coronado (LCS-4) – Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)

USS Coronado (LCS-4), the fourth Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), was built by General Dynamics Littoral Combat Ship Team which includes Bath Iron Works, Austal USA, and Advanced Information Systems. It is the second Independence Class LCS featuring aluminium trimaran hull design.

The USS Coronado was laid in December 2009 and launched in January 2012. The vessel was delivered to the US Navy in September 2013 after concluding acceptance trials in August 2013.

The weapon systems aboard the LCS-4 include BAE Systems Mk 110 57mm gun and Evolved SeaRAM missiles, while the ship is also fitted with mission modules for mounting additional weapons.

USNS Choctaw County (JHSV 2) – Joint High Speed Vessel

USNS Choctaw County (JHSV 2) is the second of ten Joint High Speed Vessels being built by Austal USA, for the US Navy. It was handed over to the navy for operation with the Military Sealift Command in June 2013.

The construction of JHSV 2 began with the official keel laying ceremony held in July 2010. The vessel was launched in October 2012 and successfully completed Acceptance Trials (AT) in May 2013.

The JHSV 2 can transport about 635t for a range of 1,200nmi, travelling at an average speed of 35kt. It offers seating for 312 embarked troops and berthing for up to 150 personnel. The vessel also features a stern flight deck to support the operations of CH-53E helicopter.

Patrol vessels built in 2013

Gumdoksuri Class

Lim Byung Rae (PKG-722), Hong Shi Wook (PKG-723) & Hong Dae Sun (PKG-725) – Gumdoksuri Class Patrol Vessels

The 10th, 11th and 12th units of the Gumdoksuri Class guided missile patrol ships, Lim Byung Rae (PKG-722), Hong Shi Wook (PKG-723) and Hong Dae Sun (PKG-725), have been built by STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN).

The three patrol boats were launched in November 2012; Lim Byung Rae was delivered in September 2013, while Hong Shi Wook and Hong Dae Sun were handed over to the ROKN in October and November 2013 respectively.

The Gumdoksuri Class patrol ships are armed with Hyundai Wia 76mm gun, dual 40mm gun, SSM-700K Hae Sung anti-ship cruise missiles and KP-SAM Shin-Gung surface-to-air missiles.

INS Sunayna (P58) – Saryu-Class Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel (NOPV)

INS Sunayna (P58), the second of Saryu-Class Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels (NOPVs), was built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), for the Indian Navy. It is home-ported at Kochi under Southern Naval Command.

INS Sunayna was launched in November 2009, handed over to the Indian Navy in September 2013 and inducted into service in October 2013.

The weapon systems aboard the NOPV include a 76mm Oto melara gun and two AK-630 Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWS). The stern flight deck of INS Sunayna can house a HAL Dhruv or a HAL Chetak helicopter.

Groningen

Groningen (P843) – Holland Class Offshore Patrol Vessel

Keel for Groningen (P843), the fourth and last of Holland-class patrol vessels built by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) for the Royal Netherlands Navy, was laid down in April 2010. The vessel was launched in April 2011 and commissioned into service in January 2013.

Groningen is armed with a 76mm Oto Melara Super Rapid gun, a 30mm Oto Melara MARLIN-WS (Modular Advanced Remotely controlled LIghtweight Naval Weapon System), and two automatic medium calibre machine guns.

P122 Araguari – Amazonas Class Ocean Patrol Vessel

P122 Araguari, the third of Amazonas Class Ocean Patrol Vessels (OPVs) built by BAE Systems for the Brazilian Navy, was originally constructed for the Trinidad and Tobago Government and was acquired by the Brazilian Navy under the PROSUPER programme.

The Brazilian Navy signed a $210m contract with BAE Systems for three patrol vessels in January 2013. The deliveries concluded with the transfer of the third vessel to the navy in June 2013.

The armament fit of Amazonas Class OPVs include a 30mm Mark 44 Bushmaster II cannon, two 25mm guns, and two 12.7mm guns.
