The market closed mildly higher amid volatility ahead of the two-day US Federal Reserve meeting beginning later in the day.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 73.64 points at 32,996.76 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 30.10 points at 10,124.40.
Vedanta fell 6.5 percent after the stock price adjusted for interim dividend. IOC slipped for fifth consecutive session.
