Japanese performance bike maker Kawasaki has added yet another Ninja to its line-up in India, the Ninja 400, priced at Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Powered by a parallel twin, liquid-cooled 400cc engine, mated to a 6-speed transmission, the Ninja’s top-speed is 190kmph. Its peak power is 49ps. The new Ninja will be up against the Bajaj Dominar 400 which has a similar size engine but is priced at Rs 1.5 lakh.

Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director of India Kawasaki Motors said “Ninja 300 is mainly made for beginners and Ninja 650 is popular among experienced riders. However, Ninja 400 fits the bill for those who are willing to buy a sports bike between 300 and 650cc.”

The Ninja 400 features a trellis frame similar in design to that of the Ninja H2. Kawasaki’s dynamic rigidity analysis was used to ensure optimum rigidity with light weight. Apart from this like the Ninja H2, the new Ninja 400 features a swingarm mounting plate.

The segment where the Ninja is positioned does not have too much competition currently. The KTM RC 390 is the only direct competitor to the Ninja 400 in terms of engine power but is priced nearly half as compared to the Japanese model. Monthly volumes is this segment are around 6,000-7,000.

The Ninja 400 is the sixth model from Kawasaki under the Ninja brand which extends from a twin cylinder 300cc to a massive 4 cylinder 1400cc.

The Ninja 400 will be available in green colour which is a KRT edition and it will be assembled in Kawasaki’s factory in Chakan, Pune. The bike comes in the market with an exclusive launch offer for limited customers if bookings are done in April 2018.

Currently, Ninja 300, Ninja 400, Ninja 650, Ninja 1000, Versys 300, Versys 650, Z250, Z650 and Vulcan S are assembled, while Ninja 1000 is produced as semi knocked down. The company logged a growth of 48 percent during April-February with sales of 1500 units.
