New Delhi: Continuing their red-hot form, doubles world number one pair Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis notched up their 37th straight win on Thursday at Saint Petersburg.

Competing for the first time after lifting the season opening Grand Slam title in Melbourne, the Indo-Swiss team beat Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) and Evgeniya Rodina (Russia) 7-5, 7-5 in Ladies Trophy first round.

Known as the 'Santina' in the tennis circles, the top seeds seemed to struggle holding their service games, like their unseeded opponents. But the experienced pair took just under one and half hour to wrap up the match in St. Petersburg.

In an incredible feat, the pair are on a title winning spree, having already captured eight titles in a row. They won five straight titles in 2015, starting from the US Open and before the Australian Open now.

They are eight matches away from equaling the all-time record of 44 set by Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova in 1990.

In the next round, they will play Russians Daria Kasatkina and Elena Vesnina.

Before the tournament, Santina visited historic Russian museum in St.Petersburg.
