New Delhi: Veteran Geeta Phogat and youngster Vinesh would be fighting it out for a place in the upcoming women's World Wrestling Championships, while an injured Babita Kumari will miss the selection trials, slated to be held in SAI Training Centre, Lucknow on July 6.

Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Babita suffered an injury that forced her out of the trials for the event in Las Vegas from September 7-12, which will also be the first qualification tournament for next year's Rio Olympics.

However, the selection committee has decided that the finalist of Babita's weight category (women's 55kg freestyle) will only be selected for Kazakhstan competition, which will be held before the World Championships, from July 24-27.

The decision was taken after taking into consideration Babita's request and her past performance.

But the finalist will give trial with Babita to book a berth for the World Championships. The date of that trial will be decided later.

The selection committee comprising Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh (chairman), Secretary General V N Prasad (convener), Executive member Rekha Yadav, chief coach A N Yadav and foreign coach Roin Doboriginidze will select the eight-member women's team.
