After Saina Nehwal, boxer Vijender Singh too wants Padma Bhushan recommendation

New Delhi: Star Indian boxer Vijender Singh on Tuesday stated that he also wanted the Indian boxing Federation (IBF) to recommend his name for the Padma Bhushan award.

The Bhiwani boxer, who won a bronze medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics said that he would talk to the federation to recommend his name for the coveted award, according to the media reports.

In 2010, Vijender was awarded the Padma Shri for outstanding contribution to Indian sports.

Recently, ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal had showed immense disappointment after his name was not forwarded further by the Sports Ministry even after Badminton Association of India (BAI) had sent her recommendation.

Though later, Sports Minister Sabanda Sonowal had himself intervened in the matter and sent her recommended as a special case.

Two-time Olympic medallist, Sushil Kumar's name was also been recommended by the ministry as a special case.

However, the last date for sending nomination for Padma Bhushan has been over on September 15, 2014.

Now it would be interesting to see whether the Boxing federation recommends Vijender's name or not.
