New Delhi: After disappointing 2018 World Cup qualifiers campaign, India dropped dropped two places in the latest FIFA rankings, released on Thursday.

With 142 points, Stephen Constantine's men are placed 162nd in the global ranking, which is being lead by Argentina. India are ranked 29th in Asia.

In the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, India lost seven of the eight matches, ending their campaign with a 1-2 loss against Turkmenistan.

Iran are the highest ranked Asian team. Team Melli gained two places with 672 points, followed by Australia (50) and South Korea (56).

Argentina moved top, replacing Belgium, as South America dominated the rankings with five teams, half of the continent`s total, in the top 10.

Argentina`s World Cup qualifying wins away at Chile and home to Bolivia dislodged Belgium, who had been leading for the previous five months but dropped into second.

Despite the defeat, Chile climbed to third, an all-time high, with Colombia one place behind them in fourth, Brazil seventh and Uruguay ninth.

Both World champions Germany slipped to fifth.
