New Delhi: Chelsea's embarrassing defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Saturday seemed to have far reaching effects, literally with club legend Didier Drogba caught in a heated exchange with fans, in New York.

That's some distance!

But the fact of the matter is, the Ivorian, who is playing in the Major League Soccer (MLS), clashed with New York Red Bulls fans after his Montreal Impact's 1-0 defeat in the Big Apple yesterday.

According to reports and as seen in the video below, security was required to keep Drogba and the Red Bulls fan apart.

The forward, in his second season in America, then returned to the dressing room with his team-mate Matteo Mancosu.

He reportedly told TVA Sports later, "There were two fans who were showing their enthusiasm a little too much...They crossed the line a bit, that's all."

Hours ago, Drogba, having witnessed Chelsea succumb to Arsenal for the first time in five years, took on Gunners striker Theo Walcott on Twitter.

The legendary striker was probably referring to his 15 goals against the North London rivals.

But Drogba, all of 38 now, has so far this season failed to make a similar impact in MLS, as he did during the Stamford Bridge stay.

Canadian club suffered three defeats in their last four games and slip to fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.

But Red Bulls have already qualified for a play-off spot and are level on points with Toronto at the top of the Eastern Conference.
