Virat Kohli: The making of India's greatest Test captain

New Delhi: Virat Kohli is the man of the moment. Winning man of the matches or series awards is passe for the Indian Test captain.

Having already established himself as one of the greats in limited overs' cricket, the 27-year-old now is ready to rule the traditional format too.

And, he has already took the five-day cricket by storm, both as a captain and batsman.

Truth be told, he is now in the making of India's greatest Test captain.

Since taking over the reigns from Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2014, Kohli has evolved as the leader India always needed — to win matches, both at home and away.

It's not that past captains who led India have had limited leadership qualities, but Kohli's case is different, an curious one emboldened by his relentless pursuit for perfection.

Ever since becoming India's Test captain, Kohli has scored in a sequence of 115, 141, 147, 46, 14, 103, 3, 78, 10, 18, 21, 1, 22, 16, 44, 88 and 200.

In the last 11 Test matches, he batted 17 times scoring 1096 runs at an average of 60+ with five hundreds, and not to mention his first 200 in last week, against West Indies.

These figures are an upgrade by miles, to his batting records as a batsman. Overall, he has an average of 46.28 from 42 matches.

But the one factor which puts Kohli above, albeit too soon, other past captains is his win record, and the believe that India can win anywhere.

India have won six of the 11 Test matches under Kohli, losing two. It's too soon to hand him the epithet of India's greatest Test captain, but the manner in which he is leading the team, it's not hard to predict something great.
