Ashes: Shane Warne joins Ricky Ponting in criticising Australia's decision to drop Brad Haddin

Edgbaston: Soon after former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting criticised Australian selectors to drop Brad Haddin for the third Ashes Test, Shane Warne too made his views public by saying that the wicketkeeper batsman deserved to be brought back into the playing XI.

The maverick spinner was of the opinion that since Haddin missed out on the second Test due to family reasons, he should have played the third Test in place of Peter Nevill, who made his debut at Lord's.

Nevill became James Anderson's fourth victim on the opening day, a forgettable one for the visitors, where the English speedster wreaked havoc with his six-fer.

After producing slow tracks for the first two Tests, the hosts provided their seamers a lively pitch and Anderson along with Steven Finn and Stuart Broad sent the Aussies on the backfoot with a magnificent display of swing bowling.

Earlier in the day, Ponting too had expressed his disapppointment over Haddin's omission.

"After the hell he’s gone through, it is outrageous that Brad Haddin hasn’t gotten his spot back for the third Ashes test," the former Test opener wrote in a column on news.com.au.

In the last Ashes, Haddin scored 493 runs at an average of 62 and was just behind David Warner who scored 523 from two more innings.
