As the World Cup is around the corner, the kind of technique, composure and temperament he possess, he would be the best man to open the innings for India. And as the biggest ICC tournament is going to take place in Australia and New Zealand, where the conditions would be difficult to bat, he can provide a good platform to the team, up the order.

The Mumbai batsman has proved that he is capable of negotiating the new ball well even when the conditions are not suitable.

Most importantly, he has a knack of playing with the straight bat, which will help him immensely Down Under, where the ball seems and swings a lot. The 26-year-old has all the shots in his arsenal to put a bowler under pressure. So, Rahane undoubtedly deserves to open the innings for India in the forthcoming World Cup.

In fact, recently, even the Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni looked convinced with the idea of Rahane opening the innings for India.

Now, there is a tough fight for another opening slot, which is between regular opener Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and discarded Robin Uthappa. Though, as of now, in-form Uthappa has very bleak chances to even make it into the World Cup squad, he can play a major role as an opener.

The 28-year-old has decent international exposure and few changes that he has made in his technique has certainly made him a compact batsman. While playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL-7 and Champions League Twenty20, he has proved that he as come off age.

If he gets a chance to open the innings for India in 2015 World Cup, he can prove to be a vital cog in Dhoni's armoury.
