New Zealand determined to dictate Pakistan from first ODI, says Jimmy Neesham

Wellington: New Zealand all rounder Jimmy Neesham believes that after suffering early hiccups in the first matches of the Test and Twenty20 series against Pakistan, he hopes his side can come out in the first ODI and put a 'stronger performance' and then move forward from their.

The New Zealand squad fought back well in the Test and T20 series, but they are now determined to dictate Pakistan from the outset of the ODI series, which serves as an important buildup to this summer's Cricket World Cup.

New Zealand team had been poor in both the first Test and first T20 against Pakistan but improved in each series and walked away with a respectable 1-1 scoreline in both, Stuff.co.nz reported.

While the improvement would provide some encouragement for coach Mike Hesson , a fast start to the five-match ODI series, which begins in Dubai on Tuesday is at the forefront of their minds.

Neesham said that they have had a bit of a hiccup in the first match of both series so far so hopefully they can come out in the first one-dayer and put a stronger performance on the board, and move forward from there.

Neesham believes that momentum always plays a role in these sorts of extended series, adding that it would be foolish to think the change of formats completely changes the momentum.

Unfamiliarity shouldn't apply to the first ODI, at the same ground that played host to the two T20 matches.

Neesham said that the wickets in New Zealand were truer and the grounds smaller, but in the United Arab Emirates batsmen needed to be more selective with their shot-making which had contributed to lower scores in the two Twenty20 matches.
