Last two ODIs against Lanka can change Robin Uthappa's fortunes

New Delhi: Robin Uthappa, who has been in rich vein of form has been given another chance to represent India in the ODIs. After getting an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series against Sri Lanka, selectors have picked the stylish batsman for the remaining two ODIs.

Though, chances of him breaking into the playing X1 are uncertain, it would probably be the last chance for the right-hander to impress the national selectors, before they pick the final 16-member squad for the biggest cricketing extravaganza – World Cup, scheduled to take place in February next year.

Uthappa loves to open the innings and has proved his worth as opener while playing for the Kolkata franchise – Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL-7. But at the moment, India already have three tried-and-tested openers in limited overs cricket in the form of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.

But the kind of batsman the 29-year-old is, he can bat at any position and in any given condition. However, if the Karnataka batsman gets the opportunity to play in both the ODIs against the Islanders, he has to grab it with both hands. Then only he can put up a strong case in front of the selectors. A missed opportunity here means, he would have to rely on sheer luck.

One can say that, at least for Uthappa, these two matches can prove career-changing.
