New Delhi: Kings XI Punjab's Axar Patel created history on Sunday as he became the first bowler in the ninth edition to claim a hat-trick.

The left-arm spinner scalped three wickets off three consecutive balls in the 28th match of the season against Gujarat Lions.

While chasing the total of 154, Punjab spinner first picked the wicket of dangerous opener Dwayne Smith in third ball off his 2nd over. He then sent back Dinesh Karthik and Dwayne Bravo to the pavilion off the last two balls of same over.

When the 22-year-old returned to bowl his 3rd over of the innings he got the better of Ravindra Jadeja off his first ball to complete a hat-trick.

Though it's the first hat-trick of the ongoing season, overall it's 10th occasion in IPL, when a bowler picked three wickets in three consecutive balls.
