TOSS: MS Dhoni has won the toss and CSK will bowl first. Chennai Super Kings would leave no stone unturned in order to reach their sixth IPL final. But this time, it isn`t going to be easy as they are up against Kings XI Punjab, a team which has defeated them twice from as many outings this season. In the Eliminator, CSK comprehensively knocked out Mumbai Indians with a seven-wicket win. Batting first, even though Mumbai posted a formidable total of 173 runs, it proved to be a company for MS Dhoni and his boys as they decimated the Mumbai bowling attack. CSK`s batting has once again been strengthened with the comeback of Brendon McCullum who went back to New Zealand for the birth of his third child. The opening duo of Smith and McCullum has been a force to reckon with right throughout this tournament and their wickets would be the key for Punjab bowlers. Smith, in particular, has been extremely brutal and is 96 runs short of leapfrogging Robin Uthappa as the highest run-getter. Faf, Raina and the skipper himself are all in sublime form and the Wankhede crowd can surely expect fireworks if CSK bat first. Bowling would be a concern for Dhoni, considering the way his spinners were mauled in the last two matches by Glenn Maxwell. Dhoni might contemplate playing Samuel Badree, as the leg-spinners have troubled Maxwell in the last seven to eight matches. The pace bowling is also not up to the mark and Ishwar Pandey is someone who needs to pull up his socks for the team`s sake. On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab have been the most exciting team this season. Sanjay Bangar was hailed for his decisions while picking players during the auctions. The players made sure they lived up to the faith which was put in by the team management. When the tournament kicked off, Glenn Maxwell took the slam-bang cricket to an altogether different level with his blitzkrieg knocks. There was hardly an expert who didn`t hail his extraordinary big-hitting skills as he single-handedly won several matches for his team. Even though he has looked off-colour in the latter part of the tournament, the CSK bowlers wouldn`t be relieved until and unless he is there on the crease. And Punjab`s success hasn`t just been about Maxwell`s batting. Sehwag has shown he remains to be one of the most dangerous batsmen in the shortest format of the game and Manan Vohra has been the find for them this season. David Miller and George Bailey have batted extremely well lower down the order and one cannot forget the contribution of Wriddhiman Saha who has batted according to the situation. In the bowling department, Punjab are blessed to have players like Rishi Dhawan, Akshar Patel, Karanveer Singh and Sandeep Sharma, who have played with immense confidence despite being uncapped players. A lot would be expected from Mitchell Johnson, and now that Mumbai are out of the tournament, the Mumbai crowd won`t mind him scaring the CSK batsmen with his fearsome pace.
