CWG: We will not play for draws in coming games, says Terry Walsh

Glasgow: Having suffered a 2-4 defeat at the hands of world champions Australia here on Tuesday, Indian hockey team`s chief coach Terry Walsh said his wards will go for a victory in their next encounter against South Africa to keep their hopes alive in the 20th Commonwealth Games. "We are going to try and create as many chances at goal as possible. We will not play for draws as that might end up bad," Walsh said after the Pool A match. "We lost two more goals of advantage, that might hurt us later." On today`s match, Walsh said, "There were no decisive turning points in the match. They were not dominant and did not create more goal chances than us. Of course in the end all that matters are the numbers." India put up a valiant fight before going down against in their third group match of the men`s Hockey competition. Living upto their reputation, Australia built on a two-goal burst in the space of two minutes and were set to go into the breather with a 3-0 cushion before India pulled one back at the fag end of the first half. "It`s so important to the team to play at this level. It`s huge for them to have the chance to grow." India managed to re-group themselves and put up a stronger defence in the second half, where they conceded one and scored one at the National Hockey Centre here. Chris Ciriello (14th minute, 49th), Simon Orchard (16th) and Jacob Whetton (26th) were the goal scorers for Australia, while Rupinder Singh (34th) and Ramandeep Singh (48th) sounded the board for India.
