Mysterious sleeping sickness knocks Kazakhstan's Kalachi village

New Delhi: One of the interesting aspect of Kumbhakarna's personality, the brother of Ravana in Ramayana was his sleeping pattern. Now, here's something that will leave you scratching your head.

Can you imagine a whole village following the same pattern literally, Yes, you read it right. The village of Kalachi, in northern Kazakhstan has been given the title 'Sleepy Hollow' as the residents here doze off for days at a time.

Out of 600 residents living in the area, around 126 people having been affected by the strange sleeping disorder.

People suffering from the condition, complain about dizziness, vivid hallucinations and memory related problems.

Doctors are unable to identify the cause behind the mysterious sleeping disorder.

Many locals believe that the cause may be because the village is located near abandoned Soviet-era uranium mines.

The first case was confirmed in 2013, but despite the high numbers of sufferers and over 7000 tests conducted, there is still no explanation for what is causing the illness.

The villagers are now being relocated.
