7.1-magnitude earthquake hits southern Alaska coast: USGS

A major earthquake measuring 7.1 magnitude on the richter scale struck southern Alaska at 1030 GMT on Sunday, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake occurred near Pedro Bay at a depth of 104 kilometers (65 miles), according to scientists with the US Geological Survey.
