Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday rejected the bail prayer of Saradha scam accused Sandhir Agarwal who was arrested by CBI and is at present in judicial custody.

A division bench comprising justices Jayanta Biswas and I C Das rejected the prayer of businessman Agarwal.

Pleading for bail, his counsel submitted that he had been in custody since August 23 and that his interrogation had been completed.

They also submitted that Agarwal, who was arrested for allegedly siphoning off Saradha funds by claiming to help Saradha boss Sudipta Sen in managing SEBI officials, would not abscond and that he would cooperate with the investigating agency.

The CBI counsel opposed the bail prayer stating that Agarwal was an influential person and that if released on bail, he might try to influence witnesses.

After hearing both the parties, the bench rejected the bail prayer.

Another Saradha scam accused Sadananda Gogoi, an Assamese singer, also moved a bail prayer before a division bench comprising justices Pranab Chattopadhyay and Sudip Ahluwalia.

The bench declined to entertain the bail application on personal ground.
