Here's why TMC MP Anupam Hazra was allegedly heckled by party workers at Vishva-Bharti university

Kolkata: Member of Parliament and a former Vishva-Bharti lecturer Anupam Hazra who was sacked by the authorities of the university last month for taking an unauthorised leave once again found himself in the eye of a storm on Tuesday.

Hazra had to face severe protests by the workers of his own party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), as he was trying to enter the university today. He was also allegedly manhandled by some employees of the varsity and party supporters in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, as per Zee 24 Ghanta.

Further, the TMC workers even got into a fisticuff with the security guards of Hazra.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Shantiniketan police had to intervene to maintain peace in the campus. Security officials and policemen then rescued the MP.

Yesterday, Hazra had protested for more than eight hours disrupting the functioning of the office. Today was the third day when he had come to demonstrate in front of the VC’s office.

However, the employees of the university heckled him when he came back today at around 11:30 am with his father, as per the report.

Meanwhile, Anupam Hazra put the blame on the Vishva-Bharti VC Sushanta Dattagupta regarding the matter. He also alleged that the VC himself had called people from outside to create ruckus inside the campus.

On June 3, Anupam's father, Debabrata Hazra had staged a sit-in protest in front of the vice chancellor’s office demanding that the university reinstates him. Authorities, however, asked them to vacate the place.

Hazra joined Visva-Bharati as an assistant professor in the department of social work on December 4, 2013. He worked at Assam University before being appointed by the only central university in West Bengal.

Hazra was asked to leave when he did not join back the varsity even after his leave was over after he became an MP from Bolpur parliamentary seat.
