Three killed as jeep falls into river in U'Khand

Three persons were today killed when the jeep they were travelling in fell into the Alaknanda river in Devprayag area of Tehri district.

Rishikesh: Three persons were today killed when the jeep they were travelling in fell into the Alaknanda river in Devprayag area of Tehri district.

The jeep fell into the river which is in spate due to incessant rains over the last couple of days and was swept away by its strong currents, Tehri Superintendent of Police Mukhtar Mohsin said.

The victims were returning from an excursion trip to Mana village near Badrinath when the accident took place at Mulyagaon early today, he said.

Some luggage, two mobile phones and two identity cards have been recovered from the spot where blood stains were found on stones and pebbles, he said, adding, swirling waters of the river is hampering rescue efforts.
