Dehradun: Spiritual leader and well known Ram katha exponent Morari Bapu, on Wednesday, disbursed a total of Rs 10 crore as part of relief for the Uttarakhand floods that devastated the state last year.

Morari Bapu, who had been deeply moved by the tragedy, contributed Rs 1 crore to the Badri-Kadarnath temple committee through Chief Minister Harish Rawat for restoration of the shrine. Besides, cheques of Rs 7.5 crore were given to 2313 villagers at a programme held at Agastyamuni.

Most of the beneficiaries belonged to Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts. The remaining amount had been handed out last year itself for building shelters.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Harish Rawat and Kedarnath MLA Shailarani Rawat expressed gratitude to the spiritual leader for his kind gesture towards the flood-hit people of the state.

"We are grateful to the saint for extending a helping hand to the calamity-hit people of the state," Rawat said.

Bhandara (Prasad of Food) for those attending the ceremony was also organized.

Morari Bapu had called for the collection of money during his Ram Katha held at Bakersfield, California. Devotees had generously contributed for the worthy cause of providing relief to those affected by disastrous floods and landslides.

The funds were collected through the Trust of Karnavati Club Foundation, Ahmedabad.
