Congress' Bhagwanpur bypoll win 'flicker of dying lamp': Koshiyari

Former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari on Friday refused to attach much importance to the ruling Congress's recent victory in Bhagwanpur Assembly bypoll saying it was the "flicker of a dying lamp".

Dehradun: Former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari on Friday refused to attach much importance to the ruling Congress's recent victory in Bhagwanpur Assembly bypoll saying it was the "flicker of a dying lamp".

"There is no need to read much into Congress's bypoll victory in Bhagwanpur. Usually, ruling parties have an advantage in bypolls," Koshiyari told reporters when asked to react to BJP's defeat at the hands of the Congress on the reserved SC seat in Haridwar district.

Predicting Congress's defeat in the next Assembly polls in Uttarakhand which are due in 2017, Koshiyari said, "You must have heard the old saying every lamp dies out with a flicker. Congress's bypoll win in Bhagwanpur is the flicker of a dying lamp."

Congress's Mamata Rakesh defeated BJP's Rajpal Singh by nearly 37000 votes in Bhagwanpur on April 15.
