UP floods: Situation continues to be grim, death toll rises to 89

The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh continued to be alarming with the condition of at least 20 dams in 11 affected districts stated to be dangerous, as per news reports on Saturday.

Lucknow: The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh continued to be alarming with the condition of at least 20 dams in 11 affected districts stated to be dangerous, as per news reports on Saturday.

At least 89 people have been killed in the floods so far which have also displaced lakhs of people in 13 districts of the state.
The rising water level in River Rapti had flooded Balrampur district and several villages of Gorakhpur district and it has been termed as “high flood situation.”

Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the flood situation in the state on Friday and took an aerial survey of the affected areas.

He visited Gorakhpur, Balrampur, Gonda, Basti and Bahraich districts and assured the affected villagers of central aid and rehabilitation.
He also announced a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to the kin of those killed in the tragedy.

The floods were reportedly caused after Nepal released water into the rivers affecting over 1,000 villages in the state.
