Lucknow: Already facing flak over deteriorating law and order situation in the state, the Samajwadi Party is in the spotlight again for wrong reasons.

Gorakhpur SSP Anant Dev Tripathi and some other police officials were suspended after they took action against a Samajwadi Party leader.

The incident happened after a son of SP leader Gopal Yadav, allegedly embroiled in a land controversy, was beaten by some policemen.

Police had filed a case of firing and attempt to murder against Gopal's son Gaurav. Based on the report, the cops brought Gopal to police station, who in turn used abusive language and threatened the officials. Annoyed with his behaviour, the policemen beat him black and blue.

Gopal is also associated with Samajwadi Party.

When the matter was reported to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, SSP Tripathi along with few other policemen were suspended.

Anant Dev Tripathi is a renowned police officer and is credited for eliminating dreaded criminals.
