Rashtriya Lok Dal state unit chief Munna Singh Chauhan's son used his father's gun to kill himself, police said here on Saturday.

Faizabad: Rashtriya Lok Dal state unit chief Munna Singh Chauhan's son used his father's gun to kill himself, police said here on Saturday.

Alok Singh (20), who was preparing for Civil Services Examinations, and had come home for the festival, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head on Diwali night with a .32 bore pistol belonging to his father, they said.

He committed suicide but the actual reasons for taking that step are yet to be ascertained, police said, adding, he also left a suicide note.

On Diwali day, Alok apparently was snapped by some family members over some issues and had got irritated before taking the extreme step in Maholi village here, police said.

"We are investigating the reasons behind the incident, but on first sight it clearly looks that he has committed suicide, since the family members are in mourning stage so we cannot ask many questions from them," Faizabad SSP KB Singh said.

Alok was soon rushed to a local hospital and was later referred to the Trauma Centre in Lucknow in a serious condition where he died, police said, adding the body was cremated in Ayodhya yesterday.
