Allahabad: Raising the issue of alleged "migration" of Hindus from Kairana in Shamli district, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi on Monday said that there will be a time when everyone will wish to leave Uttar Pradesh.
Taking potshots at Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) Government, Gandhi said there is neither development nor safety in UP.
“I get at least 10 to 15 calls from Uttar Pradesh every day regarding rape, kidnapping and the lacklustre attitude of the police. It seems the Uttar Pradesh Government has no shame,” she added.
BJP legislator and Muzaffarnagar riots accused Hukum Singh had earlier reportedly said that the Hindus were being forced to leave their homes in the Muslim-majority town in Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, the police have ordered a probe into the alleged migration after Singh presented a list of 346 families from the Muslim-majority town while claiming that they had to leave their homes after attacks and extortion attempts.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the list provided by the BJP must be scrutinised as the people mentioned in the list fled the state many years ago when SP wasn't even in power.
Since elections are near and the BJP does not have any issue to raise, it is trying to downplay the development work done by the SP, added Yadav.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah had on Sunday, in his speech, trained his guns at the state's Samajwadi Party government and raised the issue of alleged "migration" of Hindus from Kairana and the recent Mathura violence.
"The incident at Kairana where a large number of people are migrating is very unfortunate. The Mathura violence was also very unfortunate. The SP government has been unable to control the situation," Shah said in his presidential address.
"There is no peace. Here, the atmosphere is of violence and the state government has failed to control all these," the Bharatiya Janata Party president said.
