Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawans on Wednesday saved a teenage girl from drowning after she jumped into the Saryu river allegedly in an attempt to take her life.

Faizabad SP city, RS Gautam, said that two flood companies of PAC were deputed at the river in Ayodhya with expert divers and swimmers to deal with such situations.

Sarita Maurya, a student of graduation final year, jumped from Ayodhya bridge in the gushing waters of the Saryu river.

However, PAC jawans who were on duty on the bridge jumped into the river after her and pulled her out, the SP said.

She was admitted to district hospital in critical condition but now she is out of danger, he said.
