Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Monday informed the assembly that the government had been frequently persuading the Centre to bring Union Territory under the ambit of the Central Finance Commission so that Puducherry could enjoy the benefits of the states were now getting through the Finance Commission.
Replying to a question tabled jointly by the oppositon DMK member A M H Nazeem and AIADMK member A Anbalagan in the Assembly he said that he had been urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include Puducherry also within the jurisdiction of the Central Finance Commission.
Referring to the loans due from Puducherry to the Central exchequer since the creation of separate cash balance account relating to Puducherry in December 2007 Rangasamy said that the total loans had accumulated to Rs 6.080.31 crores between 2007 and now and the total interest due for the accumulated loans also stood at Rs 2901.16 crores.
He said organisations like Housing and Urban Development Corporation had lauded the ideal utilisation of loans by Puducherry government for infrastructural development in the Union Territory.
