Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Monday assured the state assembly that followup action would be taken in a recent road accident case in Vellore District in which one was killed and another injured on the basis of an ongoing probe.

Panneerselvam said a motorcycle-borne duo, who were allegedly drunk, rammed into the car of Vellore District Collector R Nanthagopal on March 22.

The mishap later snowballed into a row with DMK staging protests in Vellore district seeking action and the party had made some allegations against the District Collector.

Rajkumar and Udayasuriyan of Karnampattu village in Vellore District were on their way back to their village when they hit the collector's car, the Chief Minister said.

While Rajkumar was riding the motorcycle, Udayasuriyan was on the pillion and the collector's government car was driven by his driver Mohan, he added.

"It has been made known that Rajkumar and Udayasuriyan were drunk when the mishap occured."

The top district official informed police who reached the spot and rushed the injured to Vellore CMC Hospital and Rajkumar's body was sent to a government hospital, he noted.

"The mishap case is under probe. Based on probe, further action will be taken," he said.

Earlier, DMK members Stalin and Duraimurugan tried to raise an issue which was disallowed by Speaker P Dhanapal who said their notices were being scrutinised. Protesting, they walked out.

Similarly, CPI(M) members too staged a walkout after its members including A Soundararajan were not allowed to raise an issue by the Chair.

"The issue that you want to raise is under police CBCID probe," Speaker Dhanapal told them.
