Chennai: Amidst opposition walkout, six DMDK MLAs were on Tuesday suspended for 10 days in the next session of Tamil Nadu Assembly and stripped off their entitlements for their alleged involvement in the ruckus in the House last month.
A resolution to this effect was passed based on the recommendation of Privilege Committee which went into the unruly scenes in the House on February 19 when the opposition DMDK MLAs allegedly damaged the Speaker's podium after a verbal duel between them and ruling AIADMK following some remarks against former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Even as parties, including DMK and the Left, opposed the Privilege Committee recommendation against the six MLAs, already under suspension in the current session along with other party members, leader of the House and Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan moved the resolution which was passed with AIADMK's support, leading to the walkout by the opposition.
Later, Speaker P Dhanapal said the six DMDK MLAs - VC Chandrakumar, R Mohanraj, L Venkitesan, SR Parthiban, CH Sekhar and K Thinakaran were being suspended for 10 days in the next session.
They will not be eligible for their salaries and other entitlements during these period, Dhanapal said.
The DMDK members were evicted and suspended en masse on March 19 for the rest of the current session after the House witnessed tumult with the Speaker's podium being damaged and marshals attacked in the corridor.
The Speaker had then described the incident a historic low in the annals of the state Assembly.
