The Madras High court on Tuesday relaxed all bail conditions for former union minister M K Alagiri's son Durai alias Dayanithi in connection with an illegal granite mining case.

Madurai: The Madras High court on Tuesday relaxed all bail conditions for former union minister M K Alagiri's son Durai alias Dayanithi in connection with an illegal granite mining case.

Allowing his petition, Justice G.Chockalingam relaxed all the conditions but directed Dayanidhi to cooperate with police during the investigation.

The court had imposed some conditions on Dayanithi when it granted him anticipatory bail on November 22, 2013 in connection with the multi crore-rupee illegal granite mining case.

Dayanithi submited he was complying with the conditions without fail. Being a movie producer, he was subjected to 'serious prejudice' and unable to make himself sure of the travel itinerary due to the present condition, he said.

The bail conditions included that he should inform the judicial magistrate court at Melur about his foreign trips and obtain the court's permission to go abroad.

Police had filed cases against Dayanithi under various IPC Sections including 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) in the illegal granite quarrying scam case. Besides, cases were also filed under Mines and Minerals Act and Explosive Substances Act.

They had charged Dayanithi and Nagarajan, partners in Olympus Granites Pvt. Ltd., with encroaching on the adjacent government land and taking away large quantity of granite illegally without quarrying in the permitted area and causing a loss of Rs 44 crore to the government.

The government had ordered a crackdown on the firms after the then Madurai District Collector U Sahayam in a report, estimated the losses caused to the exchequer by illegal granite mining at around Rs. 16,000 crore over a period of some years.
