Rawalpindi: A suicide bomber blew himself up on Tuesday near Wah Garden police check post after an unsuccessful attempt to escape police after the cops stopped a bus coming from Peshawar for random check, reports said.

The suicide bomber, said to be a young man in his early twenties, was reportedly aboard a bus coming from Peshawar to Rawalpindi.

According to Pakistani media reports, the bomber initially hurled a couple of hand grenades towards the cops chasing him but later detonated himself in the farms near the area.

Police officials and rescue team rushed to the area and an investigation has been begun.

Rawalpindi witnessed another terror attack this month, when at least eight persons were killed and 16 others sustained injuries in a blast in Chittian Huttian area.

The blast had occurred when a Mehfil-e- Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAWW) was taking place in Imambargah Aun Muhammad Rizvi in the area on January 9.
