Fresh murder, terrorism case against Nawaz Sharif, 10 others, second FIR lodged

Islamabad: Police registered a second First Information Report (FIR) against Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and 10 others over the alleged killing of three political activists Aug 30, reports stated on Monday.

The FIR comes two days after an additional sessions judge ordered the Secretariat police to register the case against the 11 while disposing of a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Dawn reported.

Meanwhile, a fresh murder and terrorism case has also been slapped on Sharif and 10 others, including his brother and ministers, over the death of three protestors during anti-government demonstrations last month, the third criminal case filed against the embattled Prime Minister.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party of cricketer-turned- politician Imran Khan had sought court's intervention for launching of the case after police allegedly refused to register an FIR as already a murder case was instituted on the complaint of cleric Tahirul Qadri's Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in connection with the incident.

Sharif, his brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and eight others have been booked on charges of murder, attempt to murder and terrorism. IG Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, IG Railways have also been named in the FIR.

Three persons were killed and over 500 others injured in clashes between police and supporters of Khan and Qadri last month during demonstrations against Sharif.
Supporters of Khan and Qadri are agitating since August 14, demanding Sharif's ouster.

The PTI chief wants Sharif's ouster over alleged rigging in last year's general election which his party lost, while Qadri wants to bring a revolution in the country. But Sharif has refused to quit.

Sharif had already been implicated last month in connection with the death of 14 workers of PAT during a clash with police in Lahore in June.

According to reports, PTI had approached the Secretariat police station to register a first information report (FIR) against Sharif, Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, interior minister Chaudhry Nisar, defence minister Khawaja Asif, railway minister Saad Rafique, IG Islamabad, deputy commissioner Islamabad, IG Railways and three others over the incidents of Aug 30 that led to the deaths of three people during the protests by PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in the federal capital.

PTI had filed the complaint days after the violence but following the police`s failure to register a case, the party had approached the sessions court.

The night of August 30 saw violence during the protests led by PTI and PAT in Islamabad against the government of Nawaz Sharif which they call the outcome of a rigged election.

The capital city’s high security area, the Red Zone, resembled a battlefield at the time as marchers from the PTI and PAT, en route to the Prime Minister’s House clashed with security personnel.
