NPP demands adequate security in Garo Hills during GHADC polls

 The Opposition National People's Party (NPP) in Meghalaya on Tuesday demanded adequate security cover in the Garo Hills region to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.

Shillong: The Opposition National People's Party (NPP) in Meghalaya on Tuesday demanded adequate security cover in the Garo Hills region to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.

"We have demanded extra security cover and all measures required to make sure that free and fair elections are held," NPP working president Conrad K Sangma told reporters after meeting state Home minister Roshan Warjri.

The party has also expressed concern over the law and order situation in the five districts of Garo Hills, he said adding, the minister had assured the NPP delegation that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure free and fair elections to the GHADC.

The NPP also demanded that the state government recall the personnel under the MLP 5th Battalion from Delhi.

"The constables and officers under the 5th Battalion should be recalled to the state since they have completed over two years of their term in Delhi," Sangma said.

The Indian Police Reserve battalion are on Central deputation in Delhi.
