Washington: Internet search giant Google said that its email service Gmail has more than one billion monthly active users, joining the billion users club.

The announcement was made by the company's CEO Sundar Pichai while announcing the Q4 2015 earnings.

According to The Verge, Gmail is Google’s seventh service that tops the $1 billion mark, after Search, Chrome, Android, Google Play, Maps and YouTube.

Gmail is a free, advertising-supported email service provided by Google. Users may access Gmail as secure webmail, as well as via POP3 or IMAP4 protocols.

Furthermore, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday that its mobile messaging service WhatsApp has reached the milestone of one-billion users, with 42 billion messages being exchanged daily.
