Karad, Maharashtra: Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday expressed confidence that people will of Maharshtra will continue to support the Congress and ensure its return to power for the third time in a row.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote in Karad, Chavan said that he is very confident that people of Karad south will elect him and said that the the people of the entire state will chose Congress given the party's track record in ensuring safety and development. Chavan is the Congress candidate from Karad (south).
Chavan also negated fears that anti-incumbency would be Congress' undoing. “See anti-incumbency was there in 2004 and 2009 but people still chose us and they will do so now also,” he said.
Chavan added that the circumstances under which the elections are being held this time are different from the past as there has been a change of government at the Centre and all the alliances have broken up in Maharashtra.
“As in Lok Sabha polls when people had rejected regional parties, people of Maharashtra will also go with national parties,” he said.
