Villager mauled to death near tiger reserve in MP

A villager was mauled to death by a tiger when he was grazing his cattle in Ghunghuti forest range, close to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve near here, police said on Sunday.

Umaria: A villager was mauled to death by a tiger when he was grazing his cattle in Ghunghuti forest range, close to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve near here, police said on Sunday.

Mukesh Singh had taken his cattle for grazing to Ghunghuti forest on Friday. When he did not return after dusk, his family and other villagers searched for him, but in vain, Ghunghuti police station's assistant sub-inspector R N Patel said.

A fresh search was launched yesterday during which Mukesh's mauled body was found at compartment 476 of Ghunghuti range, he said.

The body was later sent for postmortem, he added.

Forest officials said that the family of the deceased will be provided appropriate compensation in view of the incident.
