Jharkhand Speaker to hold court on anti-defection against 6 JVM(P) MLAs

Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon will hold a court on July 3 to hear a petition of anti-defection filed by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) President Babulal Marandi against six MLAs for joining the BJP after the last Assembly elections.

Ranchi: Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon will hold a court on July 3 to hear a petition of anti-defection filed by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) President Babulal Marandi against six MLAs for joining the BJP after the last Assembly elections.

"I will hold a court on July 3," Oraon told reporters, adding, the two sides could bring their advocates during the hearing on the merit of the case.

The former chief minister filed the petition after six MLAs, who had won the December Assembly elections on his party ticket, joined the BJP on February 11.

The former chief minister petitioned that joining of the MLAs invited disqualification of House membership under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution as they won the December Assembly elections on JVM symbols.

As part of their protest, the JVM leaders had also observed a day's fast after Naveen Jaiswal (Hatia), Amar Kumar Bauri (Chandankiyari), Ganesh Ganju (Simeria), Alok Kumar Chourasia (Daltonganj), Randhir Kumar Singh (Sarath) and Janki Yadav (Barkatha) joined the BJP on February 11.

Later, Bauri and Singh were inducted in the Raghubar Das cabinet.
