You may have heard of a 'Dili' in East Timor or 'Kōchi' in Japan, what about a Patna in Scotland!

Call it a tribute to the land he spent his best years, William Fullarton, who worked as an employee of the British East India Company, on his return to England named a village as 'Patna'.

Located in East Ayrshire, Patna was established by Fullarton in the year 1802 to provide housing for coalfield workers.

Fullarton named the village Patna in remembrance of the city of his birth. And, the location he chose for his Patna was similar to that of the real Patna. If it is River Ganges in Patna, Scotland's Patna had River Doon touching the lives of its citizens.

Not much has changed in Patna's over two hundred years of existence but the younger generation is now keen to know more about the city after which their village was named.

Love for Patna from across the seven seas.
