Dubai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a letter along with a set of postal stamps and coins to the Emir of Qatar, appreciating the Gulf nation's support for the first International Yoga Day.

India's Ambassador to Qatar Sanjiv Arora yesterday handed over the letter to Qatar's Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah to present it to country's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Arora also presented a commemorative set of postal stamps and coins that were specially commissioned in India on the occasion of the first International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21 this year.

Attiyah said he would handover the letter along with the souvenir to its highest destination immediately.

The items sent by Modi are a token of India's appreciation for Qatar's support for the IDY initiative.

The items were handed over to Attiyah during a meeting in which strong ties and multi-dimensional cooperation between India and Qatar were discussed, including issues related to the welfare of the large and diverse Indian community in the Gulf country.

The UN General Assembly declared June 21 as 'International Day of Yoga' less than three months after Prime Minister Modi had proposed the idea.
