New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on his re-election to the position and expressed confidence that the two countries will expand their cooperation to new areas, particularly in the hi-tech sector.

Noting that during his earlier telephonic conversations, he had conveyed that India attaches high importance to its relations with Israel, Modi said the country seeks a broad-based and mutually beneficial engagement.

"We appreciate the personal commitment you have made to furthering our ties. I am confident that our two governments will continue to work closely to strengthen our multifaceted relations and expand our cooperation to new areas, particularly in the hi-tech sector," a PMO release said quoting Modi.

The Prime Minister also said that his re-election was a "testament" to the trust and confidence reposed by the people of Israel in his leadership. Netanyahu was re-elected in March.
