PM Modi, Rajnath Singh to address annual police meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will take stock of the issue of militancy connected with jihad, N-E insurgency and left-wing extremism at the annual conference of DGPs, IGPs of all states, Union territories and Central Police Organisation heads, Assam DGP Khagen Sarma said on Thursday.

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will take stock of the issue of militancy connected with jihad, N-E insurgency and left-wing extremism at the annual conference of DGPs, IGPs of all states, Union territories and Central Police Organisation heads, Assam DGP Khagen Sarma said on Thursday.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will address the two-day conference being held here on November 29 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi the next day when the Chief Ministers of the N-E states and Sikkim will be present, the Director General of Police told reporters here.

"Militancy connected with jihad across the country will be a major issue to be discussed in the 49th annual conference being held in a state for the first time outside the national capital," Sarma said.

"North East insurgency connected with ethnicity, ULFA, NDFB, Muslim and left-wing militancy will also be discussed at the Conference," he said.

Left-wing militancy in other states too, besides national security and its connected issues, modernisation of police force to cope with challenges, illegal arms dealings, human trafficking, narcotics, besides improvement of police-public relations would also be discussed, he said.

There will also be a separate session for discussions by the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) on the international border issues, Sarma said.

The conference hosted by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) will be attended by Central Paramilitary Forces, including BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, CISF, NSG, SPG, NDRF, CBI, IB, Bureau of Police Research and development (BPRD), National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Directorate of Coordination - Police Wireless (DCPW) and National Human Rights Commission among others.
