Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked the Navaratna PSU Nalco to give jobs to displaced families in Koraput district within one month.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked the Navaratna PSU Nalco to give jobs to displaced families in Koraput district within one month.

Patnaik issued this direction while reviewing the CRS and peripheral development activities being carried out by the aluminium major.

"The Chief Minister has asked the Nalco to provide employment to 235 displaced families in Koraput district in 30 days and solve other problems within three months," a release issued by the Chief Minister's Office said.

Patnaik said the jobs should be in accordance with the qualification of the members of the displaced families and that Nalco must submit its action taken report (ATR) to the revenue divisional commissioner.

"Patnaik has asked the RDC to monitor the recruitment process of Nalco displaced families," it said.

Stating that Nalco earned good profits over the years, Patnaik said the CPSU should spend a substantial amount of its earning in CSR and peripheral development activities.

While, Nalco's profit was Rs 1,220 crore in 2011-12, the amount was Rs 905 crore in 2012-13 and Rs 918 crore in 2013-14.

Patnaik asked officials to probe into the reason behind Nalco not spending any fund during 2013-13 and 2013-14 on CSR activities.

The Chief Minister also said Nalco should prepare a road map for setting up model schools and skill development centre in its project affected areas.

"Nalco had promised to set up a medical college in the state. It should start working on the proposed project," he said.

Suggesting Nalco to prepare a grievance redressal mechanism, Patnaik said the company should send an authorised officer to the District Grievance Cell and solve the problems of displaced and project affected people.

He said a proper coordination should be there among the district administration, Nalco and the local peoples' representatives for development of the state and the company.

Apart from state government officials, Nalco CMD was present in the review meeting held at the state secretariat here.
