New Delhi: At a time when netas are known to go any lengths to secure 'VVIP' tag, daughters of former prime minister Manmohan Singh have set an example by voluntarily giving up their Special Protection Group cover.
As per a report in The Economic Times, the elite SPG cover of former PM's daughter Daman Singh was withdrawn last month and was replaced with a mandatory security cover the Delhi Police.

The process of withdrawing security cover to Manmohan Singh's other daughter Upinder Singh is under way, the report added.
While Daman is a writer, Upinder Singh is a Delhi university Professor.

As per government rules, immediate family members of current and ex-PMs are eligible for an SPG cover.
The ET quoted Daman as saying that both she and her sister had opted out of SPG cover as they were no more comfortable with it. She added that if she had her way then she would do away with the Delhi Police security cover as well.
However, the SPG will continue to guard Manmohan Singh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Vadra are the others under the protection of the SPG.
