Film-makers Raju Hirani, Jahnu Barua being considered for FTII board

The government is considering the names of several leading film personalities, including Raju Hirani and Jahnu Barua, for appointment to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) board.

New Delhi: The government is considering the names of several leading film personalities, including Raju Hirani and Jahnu Barua, for appointment to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) board.

Film-makers Raju Hirani, Jahnu Barua, actors Gajendra Chauhan, Pranjal Saikia as well as actress and BJP leader Vani Tripathi are among those being considered to be appointed as board members of FTII in the coming days, sources said.

It is learnt that the Information and Broadcasting ministry has been holding a consultation process with stakeholders from film industry including with leading actor Aamir Khan and Javed Akhtar on ways to bolster the premier institute for filmmaking.

"The names of filmmakers Hirani, Barua, actors Gajendra Chauhan, Pranjal Saikia and Vani Tripathi were discussed and appointments could be made in the coming days," a source said.

According to Industry-based sources there has been cooperation and discussion among the government and them to strengthen the FTII.

Several other top people in the cinema and entertainment industry like Siddharth Roy Kapur, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ekta Kapoor and Santosh Sivan are among those with whom the government has held consultations, sources said.
