Amethi: It seems not only a section in the Congress, but even common people want Sonia Gandhi's daughter and Robert Vadra's wife Priyanka Gandhi to enter 'active politics'.
While Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday was holding a 'Janata Durbar' for people of his Amethi constituency, some locals urged him to bring his sister Priyanka Gandhi into active politics, a report published in The Indian Express said.
The locals asked the Gandhi scion to bring Priyanka, which would help in reviving the party, before the crucial 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.
Rahul gave a patient hearing to all and also visited the residences of some Congress members.
The Amethi MP was also advised to travel more in the Hindi heartland and declare candidates for UP polls in advance.
The 2017 UP elections are a litmus test for the Congress vice president as the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party is certain to go all guns blazing to win the state, which sends maximum MPs to the Lok Sabha.
Notably, the BJP had won on 71 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats. Congress won two, Samajwadi Party five and Mayawati's Bhaujan Samaj Party wasn't able to open its account.
Recently, Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra hinted that he is not averse to join politics in the future.
He said, “When I feel that I can work for the people, when I get my calling, that is when I'll think of joining politics,” adding: “You never say never, so let’s see what the future has in store for me.”
