New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to New Delhi, stating that she was attempting to protect Trinamool Congress (TMC) ministers who have been implicated in the Saradha scam.

"Mamata Banerjee knows extremely well that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the Saradha chit fund scam on Supreme Court orders. She has come to New Delhi to try and protect her own MPs and ministers," BJP secretary Siddharth Nath Singh told ANI.

Singh also took a jibe at the recent protests held by the TMC outside the Parliament, where the leaders of that party had used black cloths to cover their faces

"The black cloth which is being used by her own MPs to cover their faces is because they have done black deeds in West Bengal... Is Mamata going to use black cloth as well to cover her face?" he said.

Last week, the CBI had arrested West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra in connection with the Saradha scam. Taking strong exception to Mitra's arrest, Banerjee had termed his arrest illegal and unconstitutional.
