Asaduddin Owaisi following on Jinnah's footsteps, says RSS after he refuses to say ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai'

New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Monday took umbrage at Asaduddin Owaisi's comment that he won't chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai', saying that the AIMIM leader is only following on the footsteps of Pakistan founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

“At a Congress conference in Nagpur in 1920, Muhammad Ali Jinnah refused to address Mahatma Gandhi as Mahatma. The entire Congress conference requested him to kindly call him Mahatma. But he left the meeting without calling him Mahatma. This Owaisi is just following on the footsteps of Jinnah,” RSS ideologue Rakesh Sinha said.

He also alleged that Owaisi's “All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslim party has not accepted the integration of Hyderabad till now”.

At a public rally in Latur district on Sunday, Owaisi had said, "I don't chant that slogan (Bharat Mata Ki Jai). What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahab".

"Nowhere in the Constitution it says that one should say: Bharat Mata ki Jai.

“I won't utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife to my throat."

His comments drew sharp comments from various political parties.
